Here's The
Story...
I bought this guitar in
Singapore.....
I think it was 1989,
when I
first saw this guitar hanging in a guitar repair shop called
"Guitar Workshop". It was in a basement shop directly across the
street from "The Hard Rock Cafe" in Singapore...
The frets were so worn
that it was un-playable. To this day I can't figure out how
someone could play it so much to wear out the frets into such
big divots like it was... I figured, if someone played this
guitar so much to wear out the frets like this, it must be a
great guitar...and worth playing.
And it was, and
is....
This custom Tele
reminds me of the one Steve Morse (Dixie Dregs) played.
I paid the shop to
re-fret it and to use jumbo frets, which as you can see they
did.
It plays great and
there's nothing I find wrong with it at all; playability wise or
otherwise.
The wood attracted me
and was as beautiful as it is today. It still has the same great
luster even now. The wood has always reminded me of my basket
ball gym's floor. The pickups are the same today as when I bought
it and I haven't changed a thing on it on the electronics side.
I also haven't changed the tuning keys but think the two top "B"
and "E" string tuners
are a bit different from the others, although they do look the
same. The small reverse polarity
switch near the Tone & Volume controls was already there as well.
I played this guitar in
Hong Kong Bars & Pubs, Hotels, Recordings, and in Main Land
China etc. for many, many years.
In
August of 1992, a friend of mine (Danny Levine) was going to interview Def Leppard !
I
found out about it and asked if he would take this guitar and
have them sign it...
I asked him to have them to sign the
front of the guitar.
He took it to the
interview and when he asked them to sign the front, they laughed
and said
it was too beautiful to screw up the front with their
signatures....
(a couple of
humble guys, who are also a couple of the most original and
brilliant musicians in Rock History).
So Joe Elliott and Rick
Savage signed the back !
Joe said: "Your Mad !"
and Rick gave me the: "Cheers!"
This guitar came back to
the USA in April of 1999.
